DVLA announce prices for F prefix number plates

The launch of F number plates was announced a short while ago and the DVLA are keeping the asking prices for this new series of car registrations close to their chests

Alas a letter arrived at the office yesterday morning- announcing that F1 number plates will begin the pricing at £1299 all inclusive and F2 number plates will be £599 all inclusive.

It remains to be seen if these are the final prices and indeed some plates will be “individually priced” or witheld for a future DVLA auction.

Such is the anticipated demand for F prefix numberplates that the DVLA are restricting the number of purchases to one per phone call. Lines will be open from 8AM till 6PM – an extension of the usual DVLA operating hours.

It’s expected that once some of the juicer combinations have been purchased that they will be available as number plates for sale across the internet- with a premium added to the price.

F number plates will go on sale Tuesday 7th October.

E prefix number plates | F prefix number plates

With the announcement that the DVLA will finally release  F prefix number plates – it’s worth remembering the launch of E prefix number plates – their release was also witheld for a number of years.

Between the launch of e prefix numberplates and their release via the DVLA website- some great combinations were auctioned off:

E5 HER

£2,300

Sold in Apr 2000

E4 GLE

£4,000

Sold in Mar 1999

E4 MON

£4,500

Sold in Oct 1998

E1 GHT

£16,000

Sold in Dec 1989

Although the E prefix registrations didn’t provide as many great combinations as the F prefix plates promises, it’s worth noting the DVLA’s tactic in witholding desirable combinations to auction them for a greater price.

Those observant few will notice that the DVLA have witheld the new style number plates with 01 as the age identifier.

It would seem the DVLA have realised the potential value of a great deal of their numberplate combinations as they withold ever increasing numbers of plates which will be sold at a future DVLA auction.

DVLA select number plates are steadily increasing in price- some combinations from the DVLA website cost £2599 – the days of bagging a number plate bargain seem to be behind us…

What’s the fuss about F number plates ?

As an outsider to the number plate market it must be odd all this fuss about the release of the f series of prefix number plates.

Who cares that the DVLA are releasing yet more number plate combinations into an already quite saturated number plate market?

Don’t give an F about numberplates ?

The F series of personalised registrations was witheld since 1988 when it was first issued by the DVLA. The DVLA have been steadily auctioning some gret F numberplates but have never offered any for sale via the DVLA registrations website… until now

Who will buy f prefix number plates ?

Ferrari owners, F1 fans, Fiat, ford and Fiero owners to name a few- for the first time it will be possible to have F number plates and use f words – so to speak.

Any good F number plates left ?

The DVLA have been very busy and raised quite a sum auctioning F numberplates over the past 20 years or so- now they are coming to release the series – with numbers 1-20 only – we are curious if there will be any good combinations that havent yet gone under the hammer.

The F number plate series goes on sale in October – for more information visit the DVLA registrations website.
