The DVLA already enjoy massive revenues from the selling number plates, Road fund licence and numerous other areas.
In these times of “credit crunch” and turmoil perhaps the DVLA could pass on savings to motorists - £4m from telephone calls is an obscene amount of money to have to justify.
There has been a move toward online purchase this year but the DVLA remains largely a telephone based entity.
