The DVLA have began the long and winding road to tightening number plate regulations.
For far too long now rogue companies advertising on Ebay and in some magazines offer to make number plates which are illegal- knowing it’s the driver who usually gets punished.
Alas the DVLA are now imposing fines on Registered number plate suppliers – the so called “prosecution for non compliant number plates”
So what does this mean?
From 1st Nov 2008 – any number plate supplier selling numberplates which do not comply with the DVLA regulations will be subject to a maximum £2500 fine.
It’s worth noting that telephone numbers, web URLS and logos “should not” be used to identify who made a particular set of plates.
Will this affect me?
Unless you sell number plates (physical sets of numberplates) then this regulation will not apply- it simply strengthens the DVLA’s rules governing who can make and sell number plates – in a bid to cut down number plate cloning
